LV Installation, Inspection and Testing

Designed for practising electricians, this course supports progression into roles requiring advanced installation and testing competence, such as qualifying supervisor (QS) positions or work under competent person schemes. It demonstrates a strong commitment to professional standards and equips learners with the skills needed to carry out both initial and periodic inspection and testing in line with industry regulations.

This qualification is designed for qualified electricians who already possess real-world experience in inspection and testing procedures. It is intended to enhance your understanding and management of inspection and testing practices, building on knowledge typically gained through core technical qualifications such as a electrical apprenticeship or a Electrical Installation Diploma.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

  • Participants must be 18 or over.

  • You should have substantial practical experience in inspection and testing.

  • Electrical/instrument engineers with previous practical experience

WHAT WILL I LEARN

  • Procedures for to install and verifying new electrical installations, and additions to existing installations, before being put into service

  • Completion of Electrical Installation Certificates (EIC) and associated documentation.

  • Completion of Minor Electrical Installation Works certificates (MEIWC)

  • Procedures for verifying the continued safety and performance of existing installations.

  • Completion of Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICR) and associated documentation.


 

Assessment

The online examination and written assignment are scheduled for the Friday of the week and will span the entire day. Practical assessments are typically held within the same week and are designed to be completed in half a day.

Theory exam

Candidates must undertake a multiple-choice theory examination that consists of 60 questions answered over 1.5 hours.

Practical assessments:

Candidates are required to undertake four practical assessments (one per unit):

  • PA01 – 2 hours

  • PA02 – 1 hour 30 minutes

  • PA03 – 1 hour 30 minutes
